BEFORE YOUR DESK SESSION
Your questions, answered.
Everything to know before you cast the band.
What is Outstanding Tiny Desk AI?
Turn one to five portraits into a short desk-concert video. Choose who sings lead, add your bandmates, and download a vertical MP4 with sound. No prompt or video editing is needed.
Do I need five photos?
No. Start with one lead singer. The front microphone, two backing singers and saxophone player are optional. Empty roles keep the performers in the effect reference.
Who gets the close-ups?
The lead singer gets the singing and laughing close-ups. The saxophone player appears in the solo. The other three roles appear together at the desk. Match each photo to its labelled role.
How much does a video cost?
One video is $9.90. Three videos are $19.90 ($6.63 each), and five are $29.90 ($5.98 each). Every video supports one to five people at the same price. Each uses 100 credits.
Is there a subscription or free trial?
No. Packs are one-time purchases with no automatic renewal. Credits do not expire. There is no free generation or free preview.
What happens if generation fails?
A confirmed failed generation returns its credits automatically. If a result is still being checked, keep the existing task and do not submit again. Your videos page shows the latest status.
What happens to my photos and videos?
Photos are used to create your video and are sent to our generation provider for processing. Uploads are removed from our storage within 24 hours. Finished videos are private and available to download for seven days. Your account and billing records are kept separately.
What format will I receive?
A vertical 9:16 MP4 at 480p, about 19 seconds long, with the prepared soundtrack included. Save it to your device before the seven-day download window ends.
Which photos work best?
Use one adult per photo, facing the camera, with visible eyes and even light. Avoid group photos, sunglasses, dark images, heavy filters and very small faces. Use only photos you have permission to upload.
Which files can I upload?
JPG, PNG and WebP are supported. Photos up to 40 MB are prepared on your device before upload. HEIC works if your browser can decode it; otherwise export the photo as JPEG first.
Do I need an account?
Sign in with Google to purchase a pack, submit a video and find your history on another device. You can select photos before signing in. Photo drafts stay on the browser where you selected them.
Will I lose my photos when I sign in or pay?
Your selected photos, roles and chosen pack are saved on this browser. After signing in or returning from payment, return to your photos and confirm before generating. Payment never starts a video automatically.
How long does generation take?
The time depends on the current queue and processing. Follow the status in Your videos. You can close the page and come back; closing it does not cancel a submitted video. A notification is sent only when completion email is available.
Can I get a refund?
You can request a refund within 14 days for unused, unreserved purchased credits. A confirmed generation failure returns credits, which is different from a payment refund. See the refund policy for details.
Can I share the video?
Review your video, save it, and label it as AI-generated when sharing. Music and platform rules can limit where audio is available. We do not grant a separate commercial music licence or permission to impersonate someone.
Is this an official NPR Tiny Desk product?
No. This is an independent AI video tool, not affiliated with NPR, Tiny Desk Concerts, Charlie Wilson or The Gap Band. The example on the homepage is an effect reference, not proof of a result generated by this tool.
What is the Outstanding Tiny Desk meme?
The trend recasts the people in a desk-side performance of Outstanding. Sports-fan edits popularised the contrast between an enthusiastic band and the people chosen for it. Read our guide for the original concert and trend sources.
